Life in Ireland

Hello Lads,
So since I am here in Ireland for 7 weeks now, I will tell you some bits and pieces about my life in Ireland.

Firstly, I am really happy with my host family, especially because my biggest fear was that I would have to swich my host family, which would have meant a lot of trouble. My host family here is completely different to my family in Germany but that makes the whole thing even more interesting and worthwhile. Moreover, my host mum is a fantastic cook and I just love all her meals.

My school is, according to many irish people, a very good school and I have to say that personaly I totally agree. The Schooluniform is totally fine, the teachers are good and we have a lot of different projekts. In addition to that, I am in the Transition Year and that is probably one of the best things in the world. We don't have a lot of homework, which leaves all the students a lot of time to meet and we make a lot of different trips, and these are always a lot of fun.
The subjects are different than in Germany because some of my subjects are e.g. business, Agricultural Science, Creative Writing, Photography, Accounting, Guidance, Enterprise, ...

Btw, Enterprise is also called mini-company and includes being in a group thinking of a product you would like to produce, producing this product, advertising this product and also selling the product. And all of the money you earn goes into your own pocket, which is really good but this subject is a lot of work too.

Another important part of my life here is my violin. I have violin lessons every tuesday and the obligational theory lessons on saturday morning and my violin teacher is a genius. I learned more during the last month than I did during the past three years. Moreover, I have actually time to practise the violin 4-5 times a week and it is a lot of fun.

I think that is it for the moment and I hope you have a lot of fun wherever you are and that you make the best out of your days.

Finally in Ireland ✈️

Hello everyone,
So, I've been in Ireland for 7 days now, and I am so happy that I decided to come over here, because I just love the country SO much!
The different accents, the landscape, the people, the cities(e.g. Dublin), the school and even the rainy weather. : D

I'm also very happy with my host family and I hope I'm going to have a great year with them.

I only had two days in school but I subjects have been absolutely interesting and I am really looking forward to the rest of the subjects I didn't have already. Furthermore, the girls are all very nice, and even though I haven't done anything with any of the girls outside the school, I think I will get along with them very well.
And it was only the second day, right?

So this is just a short update, I will post some pics during the next days but now I really need to sleep.

A good night to everyone and I hope you have a good time wherever you are at the moment.

Best wishes,
Isy :)

Greece and different feelings about going away ♥ ✈️

Kalimera,
(means good morning on Greek)
So I was in Greece during the last week and the weather was amzing! We had 36 C and sunshine every day, which made me very sad when we had to fly back to Germany where we'll have 16 C and rain for the next weeks.
Anyway, I had a great week, especially because we visited the Akropolis, the Oracle from Delphi and because our Hotel was located directly at the beach. Moreover, I went together with a group of pupils from my school and we had a lot of fun! :)
Here are some of the photos I took in Greece and I know that this hasn't much to do with Ireland, but it has to do with traveling and this trip reminded me very well why I love travelling so much.
Furthermore, I love photography and I plan to post a lot of pictures from Ireland, when I get there, on this blog because I am not such a good writer. So I will start the "Photoblog" thing now.

The Panthenon
The Oracle from Delphi

Sunset in Greece

Flight home...

I hope you like my idea of creating a photoblog, where I will post more pictures than text, though I will write some posts anyway. And I hope that you don't mind me writing a post about Greece.

At the moment, I have my last week of school in Germany, before the summer holidays and Ireland, and when I think about the fact that I will leave Germany in 63 Days, it seems very surreal to me especially because I remeber the days when the countdown on my mobile said 400 days to Ireland.
Moreover, it happens more and more that my friends and I have a "soon-you're-gone-moment", which means that we are planning something e.g. autumnholidays and then someone realises that I 'm already in Ireland than. These moments are very strange for me because I get the feeling that a part of me is already gone though I'm still here. Worse is the feeling of being a human with a date of expiry. But I ge through it by remebering the advantages of living in the 21st Century, when thinking about means of communication, like Skype, Whatsapp, Emails or Snapchat.

On the one hand, I think about the things I leave behind more and more the closer I get to the point in time when I'm leaving. But on the other hand, my anticipation gets bigger as well as looking forward to all the things I'm going to see, learn and get to know in Ireland.
Which means that all in all I'm very positive and that I'm anxious for my exchange year.

Best wishes,
Isy :))

Ps. I would be very happy if you could tell me in the comments what you think about the photoblog thing and if you want me to write more about my feelings and things from my life like I did with Greece. :)

Host Family!!!!

Hello people out there,
I'm sorry that it took so long for me to write the next post, but nothing really interesting happened during the last weeks.

At my Organisation, every exchange student has its own page on the internet where you get informations for the student/parent seminar, about your flight, other exchange student blogs and lots of other stuff, including the into newslink.
This is a newsletter, written by into, which includes inportant knowledge and vocabulary of your host country and gets published every month.

So I went to my computer to download the third newslink, when I decided to check the "My Contacts" site, where I normally found the sentence, that there are no contacts for me yet. But this time, I found a bunch of different adresses, including my host family, my local coordinator and my school.
And I was sitting in  front of my computer and totally freak out, because this was what I've been waiting for, for months and there it was a simple adress telling me that I will be spending my exchange year in Kilkenny!!!

Unfaithfully, I had to wait until monday to call into for more information about my host family, because the internet doesn't contain any informations about my host family and at the into page was simply the adress.
On monday, I called the into office in Germany and asked about more informations about my host family and they told me that I will have two host brothers(22 and 36) and one host sister (17).
My host mother, who is single, is 56.
And they have a Spanish dog, called Phoebe. :)

All in all, I'm absolutely happy with my host family, because they have a pet and I have a host sister, who is nearly my age (I will turn 17 next November) and I have to older brothers, which is pretty cool too.

The next really important information for me was the school I will attend. My school is the Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny, which is a 5 minutes walk away from the house of my host family (absolutely glad that I don't have to drive an hour with the bus to school).
Like many schools in Ireland it is an all girls' school , which I don't mind because it will be a really interesting experience. Moreover the girls at Presentation Secondary School wear school uniforms, which I think will be really strange at the beginning, but I think I'm gonna get used to it, especially because they look really good and it is also a part of the Irish culture.

Here is a picture where you can see how it my school uniform will look like:

The white blouse with tie and jumper and the skirts are typical for an irish school uniform.

At my school, I will attend the 4th year, also known as Transition year, which is less academic and the students learn more about personal skills. (I will write another post about the transition year later.)

If you want to know where in Ireland you can find Kilkenny click here and if you want to find out more about Kilkenny than click here.
Btw, Kilkenny has 24,423 inhabitants when you include the environs and is on the 12th place of urban areas in Ireland, which sounds funny because in Germany, a city with 24,423 inhabitants would be on the 511th place of urban areas in Germany.

If you have any questions or if you are going to Kilkenny too, please comment below.

I wish you a great day and hope that I will be able to write again soon.

Best wishes,

Isy :)

When and where?

Hello,
During the last week I was on a small island in the north sea, together with a youth group from my local church. It was really funny and I had a great time and met lovely people.
But in this week I was asked many times when I am going to fly to Ireland and where, which lead me to the thought that you might also want know about it.

When?
The only thing I already know is that my plane will leave in the morning at the 26th August 2015 and I will have my Orientation Camp in Dublin(Soo excited!) until the 29th.
This is the plan for the Orientation Camp:

Expected Daily Routine
(can change due to weather, time, local events, size of the group, etc.):

Day 1:
Arrival, Get to know each other, Walk through Temple Bar
Day 2:
Workshop, Bank of Ireland, Book of Kelts, Trinity College, Dublinia Museum
Day 3:
Haven, Croke Park Stadium, Guiness Store House, Irische Danceparty
Day 4:
Good Bye and Slán Dublin: Breakfast and journey to the Host family

Where?
Sadly, I have no idea because I am still waiting for my host family. And when I have my host family I will know where I will live. (Going to give you an update immediately when I get the letter from into)

Btw, I have my Preparationcamp(VBT) at the 30/31 of May at Bonn. Anyone else too?

I think that was everything for today. If you have any questions or if you like to join our Irelandexchangestudentswhatsappgroup, just leave a comment. :)

Best wishes,
Isy :)

Ps. If you are writing a blog too, doesn't matter where you are going, leave the link below.

Why Ireland?

Hello guys *pleaseinsertwavinghand*,
Today, I decided to write a post about the question "why Ireland?".
This is a question I've been asked many times in my life, which is why I thought it would be a good idea to give an answer in my blog (so the next time someone asks me this question, I only have to give them the link to my blog).

As I said in my first post, one reason is that I just like it but actually there is a longer story behind it.

When I first said that I want to make an exchange year, I was in elementary school and about 8 years old. At that time, I really wanted to go to Sweden, but the only reason for that was that I really loved Pippi Langstrumpf from Astrid Lindgren, anyway the idea of going abroad was in my head, and obviously didn't got out.

A few years later, I still wanted to make an exchange year, but the fact that I couldn't (and still can't) speak a word of swedish was a problem. Especially because I wanted to go to a country where I can speak at least a bit of the language so it would be easier to settle in.

The only language I could speak at that point in time was English, so my future Host country had to be English-speaking.
Faithfully there aren't that many English-speaking countrys in the world.

So I just had to decide between Australia, New Zealand, The United States of America, Canada, England, Scottland, Wales and Ireland.

After I started researching about these countries, Canada, England and Ireland were left, and I fell in love with the green isle immediatly.
I mean, Old and mysterious stories about elves and  leprechauns, funny and lighthearted people, strange sports, an incredible landscape and this amazing accent. Honestly, I just love it!

And this is why I decided to make my exchange year in Ireland. I hope I was able to answer your question, if not, leave a comment.

Best wishes,

Isy :)
